Dr. Birchard, his wife Cecilia and their children, Nathaniel, Ezra and Jane, enjoy outdoor activities including bicycling, hiking and camping. Dr. Birchard also enjoys reading and volunteering with the Boy Scouts of America with Troop 373 in Chehalis where he serves as an Assistant Scoutmaster. He also enjoys tinkering in his workshop where he is currently rebuilding a 1952 Dodge Pilothouse pickup truck.
Dr. Birchard has always had a special interest in supporting and providing orthopedic care in developing countries. He has participated in medical mission projects in the Dominican Republic, Papua New Guinea, and India.
Dr. Birchard has recently taken on more leadership responsibilities in our medical community including service as the Orthopaedic Surgery Service Line Medical Director for Providence since 2015. He has also been elected as the Chairman of the Department of Anesthesia and Surgery at Providence Centralia Hospital.
