Video 1: Learning About Carpal Tunnel with Dr. Byrd

Hello, my name is Ben Shaw, and I am the CEO of Olympia Orthopaedic Associates. I’ve had two carpal tunnel surgeries, one for each hand. Before having surgery, I experienced significant problems with my hands falling asleep while driving, typing, or even just resting. They constantly felt numb and tingly, which led me to consult Dr. Byrd about whether carpal tunnel surgery could help relieve these symptoms.

Pre-Surgery Evaluation
Before proceeding with surgery, Dr. Byrd recommended I undergo an EMG (electromyography) test. This nerve study helps determine the extent of nerve damage in the hands and assesses whether surgery is a suitable option or if more conservative therapies would be beneficial in the short term.

Surgery and Recovery
After the EMG confirmed that surgery was appropriate, I went ahead with the procedure. The surgery has been life-changing for me, restoring strength in my hands and allowing me to return to normal activities that I had struggled with before.

Within about a week after surgery, I was feeling much better and could perform day-to-day tasks without difficulty. Now, I can drive without my hands falling asleep, play video games, work in the garden, and make repairs around the house without any issues.

Conclusion
Overall, the carpal tunnel surgery has made a significant positive impact on my daily life.
